Valentine’s Day, is celebrated on February 14. It was born on a Christian holiday in honour of one or two early Christian martyrs, named Saint Valentine. It has become a major cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love through later folk traditions in many parts of the world.

Today’s Valentine’s Day symbols include a heart-shaped outline, pigeons, and a winged Cupid character. Since the 19th century, handwritten Valentine’s Day has given way to mass-produced greeting cards.
In Italy, Valentine’s Day keys are given to friends as a “romantic symbol and an invitation to free the giver’s heart” and children fighting epilepsy (called Valentine’s Day disease).
In many parts of the Eastern Orthodox Church, Valentine’s Day is also celebrated on July 6 in honour of the President of Rome on Valentine’s Day and on July 30 in honour of Valentine, Bishop of Interamna (now Terni).
