Everything else remains the same. The game only plays on 64-bit platforms and supports Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. According to Ubisoft, you need 50 GB of free hard disk space to install Watch Dogs 2. We found that the game is about 23GB download UPlay and 5GB High Res Texture Pack.
Before we dive into the performance measures, here is the configuration of the computer on which we tested Watch Dogs 2:

Now that it’s out of the way let’s get started. Here is a short but essential checklist you should go through before you start the game for the first time:
Install the latest video card drivers, be it AMD or Nvidia. AMD Crimson 16.11.5 brings support for Watch Dogs 2 and should help you get the best experience. With Nvidia, version 376.09 is marked as the Game Ready controller for Watch Dogs 2. Every time you run it, the game reminds you to update to the latest drivers for best performance if you forget to do this.
If you have a 4K monitor or video card with 6GB of VRAM, download the High Res Texture package. The 5GB download has over 10,000 4K-compatible textures and adds detail to characters, buildings and vegetation.
Enable the FPS counter on Steam / Uplay to see the achievable performance.
Once you’ve set your game’s own recommended settings, check Nvidia’s GeForce Experience utility for what it says about optimal settings. In our case, it recommended enabling a few scenes that the game had decided to keep out and taking other locations with an increase.

With the above settings, the performance of Watch Dogs 2 varied depending on how rich the environment was anywhere. In some places with fewer drawings, such as the Golden Gate Strait, the engine will run and a silk frame rate of 70 to 80 frames per second during playback. In places with lots of buildings, trees, and cars, it drops 50 to 60 frames per second, rarely 40 frames per second due to heavy rendering or fast camera panning. Adding the last bit, the game sometimes stopped for a moment – a fraction of a second – during serious scenes, like when 4-5 police cars approached their heads forward, and we took a drastic turn in our car.
However, there were a couple of other things. The most significant was the drawing distance. The textures appeared from thin air around the horizon while driving. Along with adjacent edges around objects near and far, it constantly broke our immersion in the game. While this would be acceptable on a low-level system, it looks tough when you use Watch Dogs 2 for the most part in very high-quality settings.
According to Nvidia’s graphics guide, the only way to get proper anti-aliasing is to use MSAA or Nvidia’s exclusive TXAA, automatically turned off when you enable time filtering to improve performance. However, MSAA is a heavy impact, and 4x TXAA took almost 20 frames per second from our standard performance meters, as in Nvidia’s own testing. So unless you use Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 technology and the latest 6th generation Intel Core i7 processor, you’ll have to settle for a bit of the edge of Watch Dogs 2.

When Ubisoft announced the system’s configuration, it also mentioned several additional features for PC gamers – namely 4K support, no FPS restrictions, Nvidia SLI / AMD Crossfire support, and multi-monitor support with borderless mode and customizable menu layout. In addition, a few graphical options are based on the content of the console versions, including screen-space reflections, headlight shadows, advanced detail and field of view (FOV) sliders, pixel density and sharpness sliders, and several anti-aliasing options – TXAA, MSAA, SMAA, and FXAA.
Nvidia Ansel – which allows players to capture screenshots – will soon add support for Watch Dogs 2 (go to 1:17 in the video above). This means you can pause the game, shoot from any angle, and view 360-degree screenshots with VR headphones. You can also capture HDR images, even with super-resolution gigapixel details, according to Ubisoft.

Watch Dogs 2 supports the standard group in terms of control options, as we’ve mentioned before – keyboard and mouse, Xbox One controller, and DualShock 4 controller. The game offers a wide range of options for the first, allowing you to customize the keyboard buttons and change the following settings:

In addition, all of the UI screens, menus, or smartphone apps displayed in Watch Dogs 2 “support full mouse interaction, allowing the player to perform all UI tasks with just a mouse”.
